North Island Kayak has been conducting Guided Kayak Tours and providing Kayak Rentals from our home in picturesque Telegraph Cove, into the wilderness of Northern Vancouver Island, Canada. We have tours to suit all ages, abilities and interests, from a two hour family oriented adventure that makes kayaking accessible for everyone, to six day nomadic wilderness kayak expeditions that will take you deep into the territories of the aboriginal inhabitants of the region. We specialize in small group sizes, typically of less than six guests, to minimize our impact on the environment we love, while providing a personal experience that you may not find in larger groups.
The areas served by our Kayak Tours and Kayak Rentals include Johnstone Strait, Queen Charlotte Strait, The Broughton Archipelago and Gods Pocket Marine Parks; collectively these form The Realm of The Orca. These remote marine environments are teeming with wildlife including Orca (Killer Whales), Humpback Whales, Minke Whales, Dolphins, Porpoises, Sea lions, Seals, Black Bears, River and in some places Sea Otters, Bald Eagles and many other birds, a wonderland of Inter-tidal Invertebrates as well as being rich in the history of the many aboriginal bands that have called this area home since before recorded history. How much of this threatened world we can show you depends on which adventure you select to share with us.
One of the foremost reasons people come to this area is for the opportunity to Kayak with the Whales. With over 200 Northern Resident Killer Whales frequenting this area, it is recognized as the best place in the world to encounter and paddle in the vicinity of these majestic mammals. Telegraph Cove is situated a mere 20km from the borders of Robson Bight Ecological Reserve and the internationally renowned Orca rubbing beaches. While nobody may enter this protected reserve, our tours will take you to the very borders while similar beaches just a couple of kilometres away serve as our campgrounds.
Our professional guides, will share their knowledge of the area, its wildlife and history while ensuring your safety on the water, improving your paddle skills, delighting you with meals featuring local produce and generally ensuring that the time you spend with us exceeds your expectations. Most of our adventures are suitable for those with little or no experience, while remaining enjoyable for those who have paddled before.
